Scarlett point's alkaline soil makes it a unique habitat for many flower species on the island. It is one of the only places that you are likely to find purple milk vetch - a plant that is rare throughout the British Isles.
Other uncommon plants found here include kidney vetch and biting stonecrop. White water lilies can be found in the flooded quarry here, along with bogbean - a very unusual sight outside the Curraghs.
