This plant is native to central and southern Europe and has probably found its way into the wild from gardens.
While quite rare to see in the wild, the large and colorful flowers are hard to miss!
While periwinkle flowers are usually seen from March to May, they can flower at any time of the year, and can sometimes be seen flowering even in the middle of winter.
Greater Periwinkle looks almost identical to Lesser Periwinkle (vinca minor) but is distinguished by its larger leaves and flowers and the hairs on the margins of its leaves.
The Manx name for this flower is "feoghaig vooar".
